The Type 97 automatic cannon is a Japanese anti-tank rifle.
The Type 97 automatic cannon was Japan's only anti-tank rifle in World War Two. It was developed out of the need to provide infantry with anti-tank capability when heavier weapons were not available. With the advance in tank armour, the Type 97 became increasingly ineffective as an anti-tank weapon except for lightly armoured vehicles, but it continued to see front line service until the end of the war.
In Battlegroup42 the Type 97 is the primary weapon of the Japanese anti-tank class. It is also available as a stationary weapon, in which its firing mode becomes automatic.
