T-30 is a Soviet light tank.

Description[]

The T-30 was conceived as a simplified version of the T-40 amphibious light tank with thicker frontal armour. Due to sourcing and production issues, a number of variations in production models existed: initial versions were armed with the same DShk and DT machine guns as the T-40, but later versions had the former upgunned to the 20mm TNSh autocannon. Some tanks kept their amphibious capability, whereas others did not, among other minor differences. The tank was also referred to as the T-40S in some postwar documents, but this designation was not used during wartime. Further to the confusion, the tank was initially called T-60 before it was renamed to T-30 to avoid naming conflict with another development of the same designation, which was also based on the T-40. Although it was meant to be a stopgap tank, the T-30 saw service as late as 1944.

The version of T-30 featured in BattleGroup42 is armed with the 20mm TNSh autocannon as well as a DT machine gun in the coaxial mount. Compared to the T-40, the T-30 has a slightly better offensive capability against lightly armoured vehicles, but lacking amphibious capability. As with most light tanks, however, it is still too lightly armoured for heated engagements.

Examples can be found in maps set from late 1941 onwards, such as 4112-Kalinin Front.
