SU-122 is a Soviet heavy assault gun.
The SU-122 is the self-propelled gun based on the T-34 chassis. It incorporates a 122mm M-30S howitzer in its superstructure, which is suitable for both direct support as an assault gun or indirect fire as artillery support. While its explosive shells can be somewhat effective against enemy infantry, the lack of machine gun makes it vulnerable at close distance. Therefore it should be well supported by other friendly units, and avoid close contact with enemy units.
It is available from early-1943 onward.
