The Netherlands is one of the Allies of World War Two.
Originally proclaimed neutrality when the war broke out, the Netherlands was invaded by Germany without a formal declaration of war on 10th May, 1940. The Dutch fought for five days until the nation's surrender, one day after the German bombing of Rotterdam (also known as Rotterdam Blitz).
The Dutch East Indies, on the other hand, was unaffected by the surrender in 1940, but it was invaded by Japan on 10th January, 1942. The Dutch, assisted by American, British, and Australian forces, could not stop their invasion, and the colony fell in March.
