The Mauser C96 is a German pistol.

After the first construction of a modern self-loading pistol in 1893, the brothers Fidel, Friedrich and Josef Feederle worked on the development of their own model for the company Mauser, but without the knowledge and consent of their supervisor. The result was the Mauser C96 ("C" means "Construction"), which was nevertheless produced from 1896 to 1937 for the market. Its powerful 7.63x25mm cartridge in combination with its long barrel resulted in a gun with a long range, good precision and penetration capability. A version chambered for the 9mm Parabellum cartridge was also made available shortly afterwards. In the early years of the 20th century the Mauser C96 saw widespread use in conflicts around the world. It was used by Imperial German troops during World War I, as well as Bolshevik troops during the Russian civil war, and was exported in large numbers to various governments and civil users.
The Mauser C96 has a distinctive appearance, recognised by a long barrel and a box magazine in front of the grip. While it was produced in German arms manufacturer up to 1930s, it also saw unlicensed production in Spain and China, with numerous variants created over the years, ranging from guns with detachable magazines to automatic action. The gun saw massive use in China for multiple conflicts via import and unlicensed production, and it was nicknamed "box cannon" (盒子炮) for its appearance. The most popular owner of the Mauser C96 was Winston Churchill, who used one at the 1898 Battle of Omdurman and during the Second Boer War.
In Battlegroup42, the Mauser C96 is the sidearm of the Chinese scout, assault, anti-tank and rifleman classes, as well as the Dutch SS Rifleman and Anti-Tank classes, appearing only on 4407-Narva Bridgehead.
