The Lee-Enfield No.5 Mk I is a rifle of British origin.
Description
The Lee-Enfield was the standard British service rifle for the first half of the twentieth century. Its name consists of the rifle's bolt system designer James Paris Lee and the location of the factory respectively. Various models have been developed over the years, with the Lee-Enfield No.5 Mk I being the most iconic as it was used in large numbers for both World Wars.
The Lee-Enfield No.5 Mk I was produced late in the war to be lighter and more compact than other existing Lee-Enfield rifles. These design features made the rifle ideal for paratroopers and environments where compact weapons and short combat distances were more favourable. The weapon saw relatively short service, with production ceased in 1947 due to reported insoluble faults.
