For historical information, Wikipedia has an article on Grumman F6F Hellcat.

Grumman F6F Hellcat is an American fighter and fighter-bomber.

Description[]

The Hellcat is the successor of Grumman F4F Wildcat, and it is the dominant American naval fighter in the second half of the war. Although similar in appearance to its predecessor, the Hellcat is a completely new design.

Both fighter and fighter-bomber versions are equipped with six M2 Browning machine guns. The fighter-bombers are typically armed with eight rockets, while those near the end of the war are equipped with two powerful Tiny Tim rockets instead.
