The Gleaves-class destroyer is an American destroyer.
The Gleaves-class destroyers and the very similar Benson-class were the predecessors of the famous Fletcher-class destroyer, with the first ships commissioned in 1940. They formed the main part of the modern destroyer fleet when the USA entered World War 2 in December 1941. The ships initially were armed with five 5"/38 caliber guns and a torpedo launcher with five torpedo tubes. One turret was replaced on later ships by another torpedo launcher to reduce top-heaviness.
In Battlegroup42, the model of the Gleaves-class destroyer represents a ship from the later batch with four gun turrets. For anti-aircraft defense it is also equipped with dual 20mm Oerlikon guns on each side of the ship. Two LCVP landing crafts are typically spawned near the rear of the ship for amphibious assault.
