For historical information, Wikipedia has an article on Yakovlev Yak-9.

Yakovlev Yak-9 is a Soviet fighter.

Description[]

While not the most produced combat aircraft by the Soviet Union (of which the title goes to the Ilyushin Il-2), the Yakovlev Yak-9 was the most produced Soviet single-seat fighter in the war. First entered service in October 1942, the Yak-9 was a competent fighter against its German counterparts, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Focke-Wulf Fw 190, especially at low altitudes.

There are three variants of the Yak-9 in Battlegroup42: Both the Yak-9 fighter and Yak-9B fighter-bomber versions are equipped with one ShVAK cannon and two UBS machine guns on the nose. The latter also has provision for two bombs against ground targets.

Finally, the Yak-9TD ground attack variant is armed with a 37mm NS-37 cannon and a pair of UBS machine guns on the nose, which are fired simultaneously, and four FAB-50 bombs beneath the wings for attacking enemy ground units.

Trivia[]

The aircraft is ported from the original Battlefield 1942's Yak-9 model.
