For historical information, Wikipedia has an article on Type VII submarine.

The Typ VII C is a German submarine.

Description[]

The German submarine class VII, and among it the Typ VIIC, was the most numerous submarine type ever build. More than 700 of these excellent boats left the dockyards between 1935 and 1943, when the XXI-class replaced it in production. The Typ VII boats operated all around the world, but especially proved to be highly effective during the Battle of the Atlantic. They sunk more enemy ships than every other type of submarine. Being very agile and capable to dive deeper than any other submarine of World War 2 for the sake of size and comfort, these attack boats formed the backbone of the German naval force until advanced radar and sonar detection rendered the type obsolete. Losses extend from year to year: 9 in 1939, 24 in 1940, 35 in 1941, 86 in 1942, 241 in 1943, 234 in 1944 and another 136 in 1945. This means, that almost every boat of the class has been sunk.

In BattleGroup42, the Typ VII C has a total of five torpedo tubes: four at the bow, and one at the stern. The torpedoes have slow reload speed. In addition to the torpedo tubes, the Typ VII C also has the powerful 8.8 cm/45 SK C/35 naval gun (unrelated to contemporary 88mm guns used by the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe) for engaging surface targets where there is no immediate threat to the submarine itself. It is also equipped with the automatic 20mm C/30 for air defense.

It can be found in maps such as 4204-Channel Patrol, 4207-Intruder Mission, 4209-Wolves at Night, 4210-Wolfpack, and 4306-Operation Corkscrew.

Trivia[]

  • During the mod's early development, it uses the original Battlefield 1942's Sub7C as a base model. The model was later replaced with high quality render in version 1.7.
