Sexton is a Canadian self-propelled artillery.
Description[]
Previous attempts to adapt existing vehicles with howitzers to create self-propelled artillery by the British had much to desire, such as the Bishop. The arrival of the American M7 Priest replaced the existing interim stopgaps, but the Priest's 105mm gun uses different ammunition to the British Ordnance QF 25-pounder, and such incompatibility causes logistical problem for the British. The Sexton was created based on the American tank hulls while putting Canadian production lines into good use.
The Sexton's main armament is the Ordnance QF 25-pounder gun. For self-defense a Bren gun is mounted on the left of the artillery gun. The vehicle has an open top fighting compartment, which makes the crew vulnerable to small arms fire, hand grenades and splinters. To avoid this, the Sexton should not be used in the front line.
It can be found in Northwest European theatre from June 1944.
