In World War 2, the German army used tank turrets on fixed emplacements as armament of fortifications and part of defensive lines. Usually turrets of obsolete or battle damaged vehicles have been utilized for this. Later in the war, more powerful weapons were needed, so the Germans start to use turrets of the Panther and put them on concrete or steel shelters. Around 270 of these "Panther Ostwallturm"-emplacements have been build and, despite its name, were mostly deployed at the western front, in the Atlantic Wall, in Italy and during the defense of Berlin. The turrets retained their complete armament and had a much thicker roof armor than their mobile counterparts in order to withstand enemy artillery fire.
In Battlegroup42 there are three variants of tank turret bunkers: one of a Panther turret, one of a Panzer IV with the 75mm KwK 37 L/24 gun, and one with a P26/40. All turret bunkers can be entered while standing close to them.
