Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 is a Soviet fighter.
Description[]
The MiG-3 is a development of the early days of WW2 with the goal to improve the unsatisfactory MiG-1. With one 12.7mm UBS machine gun and two 7.62mm ShKAS machine guns, it was inferior to the German BF109 in terms of armament. The MiG-3 became famous though for its role in the defense of Moscow in the winter of 1941/42. There, at high altitudes above 5000m, it proved to be more manoeuvrable than its German counterpart. The MiG-3 successfully operated against German reconnaisance and bomber activities over Moscow, helping to save the Soviet capital from beeing captured. Production phased out in January 1942.
In Battlegrou42, the MiG-3 can be found on maps set after early 1941 up to mid 1942.
