For historical information, Wikipedia has an article on M36 Jackson.

M36 Jackson is an American tank destroyer.

Description[]

Officially called 90 mm Gun Motor Carriage, M36 in US Army nomenclature, the M36 is essentially an M10 equipped with the more powerful 90mm M3 tank gun. With the 90mm gun, the tank destroyer is a threat to many tanks. However, it also inherits its predecessor's light armour, making it too fragile for a head-on engagement, but ideal at ambushes or supporting tanks in armoured warfare. For self-defense against infantry, the M36 has a rearward facing M2 Browning machine gun located at the back of the gun turret.

A variant of the M36, M36B1, uses the chassis of M4A3 Sherman tank while retaining the gun and turret. This variant can be found in 4411-The Roer Plains.

The M36 appears from September 1944 onwards in European theatre.

Trivia[]

  • The previous M36 and M36B1 model is a modified version from the original Battlefield 1942's M10 Wolverine, and M4 Sherman respectively.
  • Prior to FINAL Release Candidate 1, the first public showcase of M36 hull is based on M10 model created by Koricus, it was later replaced entirely with the render created by SimLac and Soloriens.
  • The nickname "Jackson" for the M36 was not officially adopted by the American soldiers, but only for public information release by the Army Service Forces dated 24 November 1944.
