For historical information, Wikipedia has an article on Lavochkin-Gorbunov-Gudkov LaGG-3.

The Lavochkin-Gorbunov-Gudkov LaGG-3 is a Soviet fighter-bomber.

Description[]

The LaGG-3 was one of the most modern Soviet fighters available to the Soviet Air Force at the time of Germany's invasion in 1941. It was a refinement of the earlier LaGG-1, but the lack of a powerful and reliable engine at the time rendered the aircraft underpowered in both speed and maneuverability. It also suffered from quality issues, making the plane immensely unpopular among Soviet pilots. It stayed in production though until 1944, with a total of 6528 build.

In Battlegroup42 the LaGG-3 is armed with two Berezin BS machine guns, one 20 mm ShVAK cannon, and six RS-82 rockets, fulfilling the role of fighter-bomber in scenarios set between 1941 and 1942, such as 4106-Battle of Brody and 4111-Rostov. On later maps, it is replaced by more modern fighters like the Lavochkin La-5FN and the Yakovlev Yak-9.
