For historical information, Wikipedia has an article on Aichi D3A.

Aichi D3A is a Japanese dive bomber.

Description[]

Commonly known by the Allied reporting name "Val", the Aichi D3A is the primary dive bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service, and despite its increasing obsolescence as the war progresses, it continues to see action both as a carrier-borne and land-based dive bomber.

In addition to the 250kg. bomb beneath the fuselage, the dive bomber is armed with two forward-firing Type 97 aircraft machine guns and one rearward-firing Type 92 machine gun. As with most dive bombers, the Aichi D3A is not very maneuverable, hence it should be escorted by friendly fighters where there is a lack of air superiority.

The Val has two versions: D3A1 and D3A2. Both have identical armaments, but the latter has slightly better overall performance. It can be found in the Pacific theatre from 1940 onward.

Trivia[]

The Aichi D3A1 model is based on the original Battlefield 1942's counterpart.
