Sdkfz 231 is a German armoured car.
Description[]
There were two different types of heavy reconnaissance vehicles under the designation "Sdkfz 231": a six-wheeled version that was developed first, and an eight-wheeled version that came later. The initial six-wheeled version suffered from poor off-road performance, and was replaced by the eight-wheeled version in the early years of the war. The vehicle had several variants, which included Sdkfz 232 with long radio antenna, Sdkfz 233 fire support vehicle, and Sdkfz 263 command vehicle.
The Sdkfz 231 and 232 in BattleGroup42 are the eight-wheeled version, and despite the slight visual differences both vehicles function the same in the mod. They are armed with a 20mm KwK 30 autocannon and a coxial MG 34 in the turret, which are sufficient to deal with enemy light vehicles and infantry. Although not heavily armoured and therefore not suited for prolonged engagements against the bulk of enemy forces, these armoured cars excel in their reconnaissance role, boasting good speed even in rough terrain. Furthermore, a second position is available in open hatch on top of the turret to allow a crewman to spot targets for friendly artillery units.
Both vehicles appear in maps that are set in the early years of the war.
