The Elco 80'' is an American torpedo-armed fast attack craft.
During WW2, the US Navy and their Allies deployed about 700 so called "PT boats" (PT = Patrol Torpedo) not only in the Pacific area, but also on Mediterranian waters and in the English Channel. The boats featured high speed of 41 kts and even more later in the war, thanks to their 1200 hp engines, which have been upgraded through the war up to 1850 hp. They proved to be very effective especially against supply shipping in shallow waters and were even able to attack larger warships. They could have been even more successful, but the PT boats Mark 8 torpedo tended to fail and was later replaced by a Mark 13. Several types of PT boats were build through the war by Higgins, Hutchins and Elco, and among them the Elco 80' was the largest one with a length of 24m and a width of 6.30m. It was als also the most numerous one with 326 buildt.
In Battlegroup42, the Elco 80' PT boat is armed with two torpedoes on its sides and mines at the back for anti-shipping purposes. The gunner has access to twin mounted M2 Browning machine guns, which are useful against small surface targets, as well as low flying aircraft.
