|Position 1||12.7mm machine gun|
The Breda-SAFAT machine gun is an Italian machine gun.
The Breda-SAFAT is the name for two Italian machine guns: one for the 7.7mm calibre, and the other for the 12.7mm cablibre. Realising the need for a larger calibre to deal with the increasing armour and durability of new generation aircraft, the 12.7mm version was developed as a primary aircraft machine gun for the Regia Aeronautica (Italian air force).
As a stationary weapon, the Breda-SAFAT is available on an anti-aircraft tripod mount for use by infantry. It is also available as a defensive armament for a number of vehicles, notably the MAS torpedo boat and Piaggio P.108 heavy bomber, as well as being the primary armament for the Italian fighters.
